Court Culture: The brand
BRANDING + APPAREL DESIGN + CONTENT CREATION + PHOTOSHOOT COORDINATING + SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
One day we were sitting in our weekly HEAT creative meeting and said, "What is up with the clothing options in the HEAT store?" — Everything was so generically made and adaptable to any market. It didn't have flavor. It didn't feel authentic. We knew we could do better for our fans (and selfishly for ourselves). HEAT Creative set out to be the lifestyle brand that Miami was missing. The brand HEAT fans needed. Made by locals, for locals, locally.
The clothing line celebrates the city, current players, and championship moments. Every design is created in-house and produced in South Florida. As the brand has grown, so have the opportunities to expand. In the past year alone we have teamed up with both New Era and a group of local artists in order to broaden our brand horizons. As the point person on both of these projects, I'm happy to say that we have had a great deal of measurable success in our collaboration endeavors — our headwear collections continue to be some of our top sellers and the murals outside of our 300 Level store quickly became a fan favorite.
Court Culture: Artist Series
PROJECT COORDINATING + WEBSITE DESIGN + CONTENT CREATION + SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT + VIDEO SHOOT PLANNING
In the few years since Court Culture was founded, I've designed my share of apparel graphics, organized and planned brand photoshoots, built and maintained the social media accounts, planned the marketing calendar, and helped to concept the layout of our brick-and-mortar store in AmericanAirlines Arena.
All of these endeavors have been successful for the brand, but I really poured my heart into one specific project during the 2017-18 season: the Court Culture Artist Series. This project was commissioned to commemorate the Miami HEAT's 30th Anniversary. The goal was to share the anniversary of the team with the City of Miami. We wanted the collection to resonate with the community in an organic way, so I recruited a team of local artists to help bring a fan’s perspective to our storefront.
My true love is design, but my skills extend beyond that. This project allowed me to work outside my usual job duties and pushed me to manage a project from start to finish. Tasks included developing and presenting the brief, scouting and commissioning the artists, working directly with our legal department to clear every aspect of the project and draw up contracts, following up with contracts and commitment agreements, keeping a project timeline on track, producing the garments and mural artwork, designing the Artist Series microsite, and then advertising the collection across internal media channels and the online store.
